Call for Applications – Mentorship programme for newsrooms: Supporting AI adoption

Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF) is the corporate foundation of Thomson Reuters, a global leader in news and information services. As an independent charity, TRF uses its media, legal, and data expertise to support independent journalism, enable legal access, and promote responsible business practices. Through a combination of news, media development, free legal support, and data insights, the Foundation aims to build informed, free, and fair societies.

As part of its media development efforts, TRF is offering a mentorship programme to help selected newsrooms better understand, experiment with, and integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions. These AI tools will support both editorial and operational functions, while also helping newsrooms to effectively counter disinformation.

This six-month programme targets newsrooms in Kenya, South Africa, and Tanzania. It provides tailored AI strategies, hands-on experience with AI tools, and guidance from AI and journalism experts. Additionally, each participating newsroom will receive a moderate grant to assist in their AI adoption journey, ensuring the solutions meet their specific needs.
