MDDA – ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND REPORT
On 6 May 2025 AIP members attended the launch of the MDDA Economic Development Fund (EDF) report in Sandton, Johannesburg.
The Economic Development Fund (EDF) was established in July 2017 to distribute funds obtained by the Competition Commission from several media companies that were found to have engaged in anti-competitive behaviour. The Commission’s investigation into price-fixing, which began in 2011, resulted in 15 media companies signing consent agreements. These agreements imposed financial contributions to the EDF and penalties.
The funds have been spent on bursaries and start-ups to support the advertising industry. A portion of the Fund was spent on sustainability projects.
