Meet Erin Magrobi: Our New Intern Passionate About Storytelling and Community
Hello! My name is Erin Magrobi, I’m the new intern. I’m 23 and live just outside Howick, KZN. Last year, I completed my Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology, and a story I wrote won a nationwide competition for narrative storytelling. I also hold a certificate in graphic design. I’m passionate about writing—not just as an art form but also as a tool for knowledge-sharing, empowerment, and development. Another key passion of mine is community upliftment and social justice. I’ve joined the team to gain hands-on experience in the publishing industry. Thank you for having me on board!
1. Do you have any hidden talents or obsessions?
I wouldn’t say it’s entirely hidden, but I have a deep fascination with history and archaeology. I’m particularly interested in prehistoric human culture and religion, and I often spend my free time reading and learning about the topic.
2. If you launched a publication, what would it be about?
Lately, I’ve been interested in creating a community-based arts and culture newsletter. There are so many incredible local artists and voices that deserve a platform, and I believe a newsletter would be a great way to showcase their work and foster creative engagement.
3. What is your all-time favourite song or singer and why?
My all-time favorite song would have to be Bob Dylan’s ‘Blowin’ in the Wind.’ The lyrics resonated with me from the first time I heard them as a child, and I still find the song’s message both inspiring and timeless.
4. What media (television, radio or publications) do you like and why?
I’ve recently become very interested in zines—small, self-published magazines—as a unique and personal form of creative expression. I also enjoy listening to EarthCast by Olivia Taylor, a South African sustainability-focused podcast that offers insightful discussions on environmental issues.
5. Who is the person (or people) who has influenced you the most in your life and why?
The person who has influenced me the most is my sister. She is one of the most headstrong and unyielding women I know, and she has taught me the importance of embracing individuality without hesitation.
