Why join the Introduction to Financial Journalism workshop?
To be an effective journalist in any field, you need to understand the economy and business. This workshop equips journalists with essential knowledge about the economy, business and finance.
Students don’t need to be mathematicians or accountants – they simply need curiosity about how the business world works.
Understanding financial journalism helps you because:
- Almost every story has a money-related angle
- You can hold truth to power by scrutinising decisions, evaluating their impact and holding authorities accountable
- You build credibility with your audience, establishing trust and enhancing your reputation as a journalist
- Knowledge of the economy and business helps you provide more insightful and valuable news coverage
- Financial understanding makes you more employable as it’s a scarce, in-demand skill in journalism and other fields
By knowing how to follow the money, you can uncover hidden connections and conflicts of interest, identify potential corruption and produce better stories.
